I have chosen the Mandrake environemtn bacause of the Progressive nature
of the OS. It is a little more Current, and people that have become
accustomed to the SUSE or RedHat Shops look at Mandrake with their Jaws
agapel! Soon after that, they are all converts.
The background Process that changes the persmissions on files is called
msec. After the user selects the Security Level for the envrionment,
the software will schedule a check of the SUID, GUID files against the
Standard and LOCAL (user created) list of files. Yes, I've learned how
to manage this beast as well, and after becoming accustomed to the
environment and found that is truely a blessing, and not a curse.
The NICEST thing I've found with Linux (and then I'll get off of my
Soapbox), is that there is a Linux for all types of Users. Most of them
are the same, all have their own modifications that set them apart from
the crowd. Getting to know them all is a chore I enjoy the most.
Thanks for the tip on Gentoo, I'll look into that as well!. If you are
interested in a Truely Graphical environment for your servers, I'd
HIGHLY Recommend Mandrake, in fact I'm installing 9.1 on a Backup
Cluster as we speak.
Thanks for your support David!
