[Mimedefang] SMTP AUTH password can be used in Mimedefang?

I do not completely understand what you are trying to do.

You intermix postfix and sendmail, but I do not grasp, why.

1) Is it not sufficient to change MX?

I don't know. You could configure the backend server to accept mail from 
the mail only proxy, that way anybody not honoring your MX records is 
lost.

2) password

If you have a way to authentificate users, why put another complexity into 
all this? How do you authentificate your users, with sendmail or postfix?

If you use the _same_ (or a copy often duplicated) on the mail proxy und 
use the same basic mail system on the proxy, you need not the 
authentification directly, but can trust the SMTP server for doing it.

We use LDAP instances on both "backend" and "proxy" mail servers, that 
synchronize with a central LDAP. So both has the same user database and 
both use the same sendmail-techniques to valid users.
