I'm arguing that it's wrong and bad.

Publishing RFC1918 addresses as MX hosts means you're willing to let
people send mail for your domain to random servers all over the Internet,
with totally unpredictable results.

Open relays used to be common until their admins got beaten into
submission. :-)
