[Mimedefang] tempfail - Problem running Sophos AV

While things are off-topic and FreeBSD related I'm going to stick my unrelated (to graphdefang) question in.

I've been happily running MD 2.35, SA 2.55 and Sophos (Anti-Virus) on FreeBSD 4.8 Stable for a while now (with a few upgrades along the way). I'm now trying to build a temporary stand-in box so I can take the main one offline to upgrade. Everything is working great with FreeBSD 4.9-RC, MD 2.38 and SA 2.60 but I can't get Sophos to run. Sweep runs fine manually but whenever its called from MD I get the following error in my log file -

Problem running virus scanner: code=1, category=interrupted, action=tempfail

 - and it rejects the mail with a 451 error (obviously).

As far as I'm aware everything is installed the same as on the other box - basically from the ports apart from Sophos where I installed from the same source files on both boxes. Permissions for everything are the same as well.

Has anyone else running Sophos on a similar setup solved a similar problem? I really don't know what I can do to solve this and would appreciate any advice or thoughts. More and more spam is being missed by my old version of SA but I can't afford to upgrade a production server without a backup in place - especially if it might cause the same problems.

Cheers
Ric
