What is your line in sendmail.mc file to call the access? Probably you are
running Redhat, so this line is FEATURE(`access_db',`hash -T<TMPF> -o
/etc/mail/access.db')dnl
Change it to FEATURE(access_db)dnl and test again,
or FEATURE(`access_db',`hash -T<TMPF> /etc/mail/access.db')dnl
Leave the -o out as it leads to omit the access.db if there is something not
correct with it.
echo "/map access 127.0.0.1" | sendmail -bt -d39.20
Does this report any failure?
