You have to upgrade MIME-tools to 5.411a AND apply the patch
at http://www.roaringpenguin.com/mimedefang/mime-tools-patch.txt.
If you do not apply that patch, the behaviour you describe will happen.

You don't have to upgrade MIMEDefang itself to get the fix, although
I'd recommend it anyway.
