[Mimedefang] Milter (mimedefang) to error state

"Milter: initialization failed, temp failing commands"

My sendmail is logging the line above and in the Subject:.  What is the 
cause and the cure?

I had to restart not only mimedefang and mimedefang-multiplexor, but also 
sendmail itself. Just restarting mimedefang failed to cure the error.  Once 
I restarted both, function returned to normal.
