The message contained the following header:

X-Mailer: SMRmail - ^_tiscon AG Infosystems^M^J

where "^_" is the ASCII character 0x1F.  Here's an excerpt of the
octal dump:

It is that control character which upset MIMEDefang.  Control
characters like 0x1F are legal in mail headers according to
RFC2822, so I will loosen up the tests to look for embedded NUL's and
CR's only.
