Also, you have to escape the first @ in your regex.  Perl should have
warned you about this.  And I should have noticed it yesterday! :)

So your regex would be:

  /^<?"www-data\@test"\@hotmail\.com>?$/i

That will match your string.  If not, then your string is not what you
think it is.
