[Mimedefang] End-of-line weirdness

I'm seeing some line termination weirdness:

Dec 6 11:16:09 mail mimedefang-multiplexor[14441]: Starting slave 1 (pid 1128) (1 running): Bringing slaves up to minSlaves (2)
Dec  6 11:16:10 mail mimedefang-multiplexor[14441]: Slave 1 stderr: Can't determine ip format at /usr/share/perl5/Net/CIDR/Lite.pm line 198#012#011Net::CIDR::Lite::add_range('Net::CIDR::Lite=HASH(0x269b280)', '') called at /usr/lib64/perl5/Net/Patricia.pm line 117#012#011Net::Patricia::add_cidr('Net::Patricia::AF_INET=SCALAR(0x269b1f0)', '', 'HASH(0x269b1d8)') called at /etc/mail/mimedefang-filter line 1649#012#011main::load_bad_networks() called at /etc/mail/mimedefang-filter line 1653#012#011require /etc/mail/mimedefang-filter called at /usr/bin/mimedefang.pl line 52
Dec  6 11:16:10 mail mimedefang-multiplexor[14441]: Slave 1 stderr: 92#012#011main::main called at /usr/bin/mimedefang.pl line 7678#012Compilation failed in require at /usr/bin/mimedefang.pl line 5292.
Dec 6 11:16:10 mail mimedefang-multiplexor[14441]: Reap: slave 1 (pid 1128) exited normally with status 2 (SLAVE DIED UNEXPECTEDLY)

What would cause the end-of-line character to (a) be set to \r\n and (b) be printed in octal with a hash mark?

I'm running Fedora 13 (updated), mimedefang-2.72 BETA (patched with my port fix), and perl 5.10.1.

As far back as my logs are kept (Nov 07, 4:22 MST) this problem seems to have been going on... although it didn't start causing fatal errors until I tried to use the CIDR interface to Patricia... but the logs definitely had \r in odd format in them:

Nov  7 04:22:32 mail mimedefang.pl[24374]: hostip=, action=CONTINUE, msg=OK, net=

Stranger still is that it's \r, not \n...
