OK; good.  It turns out my fix was wrong; the proper fix was mentioned
at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=522099

I've implemented a new version of MIMEDefang with the fix suggested by
the Debian maintainer and it works; will probably release another beta
in a little while.
