[Mimedefang] Can I defer or tempfail individual recipients?

On our mail gateway we allow mail to any host in our domain, or to any
subdomain of our domain. I want to use md_check_against_smtp_server() to
look up all recipients in incoming mail. md_check_against_smtp_server()
returns the following for a domain it cannot find or connect to:

 TEMPFAIL
 Could not connect to other SMTP server mtjjacmxtxp.ucc.ie: Invalid
argument

Is id OK to return this, so sendmail tempfails an individual recipient,
or is tempfail valid only for a message not a recipient?
If there are multiple recipients and one tempfails will the others get
delivered?
