The paralell querying of multiple DNSBLs used when scoring mail 
is, IMHO, one of the things that makes SpamAssassin as good as it is.

For a busy mailserver I'd suggest running a local cashing DNS to 
make the DNS lookups (both for RBLs and for things such as MX and 
rDNS lookups) less of a burden.
