Because that's what the gmail server is supposed to do.

It turned your e-mail message into two separate messages:

- connect to MX for yahoo.co.uk, then
MAIL FROM:<Me at gmail.com>
RCPT To:<NoSuchUser at yahoo.co.uk>

- connect to MX for dcs.bbk.ac.uk, then
MAIL FROM:<Me at gmail.com>
RCPT To:<me at dcs.bbk.ac.uk>

Each e-mail has exactly one recipient.
