I run my scanning system on a AIX variant PPC604 w/128MB (and 4 slaves)
which works great for me... it's all about figuring out the needs
carefully. On my server, it's the bare minimum.. no X, nothin else running
that I don't need.

Your box does sound underpowered for the needs.
