[Mimedefang] mimedefang not starting

hello

i just installed mimedefang-2.57 on a slackware-10.2.
i'm using a small mimedefang-filter, which does in fact no filtering at
all at the moment.
the multiplexor starts just fine, but when i try to start mimedefang, i
get a
mimedefang[2862]: MIMEDefang alive. slavesReservedForLoopback=-1
AllowNewConnectionsToQueue=0 doRelayCheck=0 doHeloCheck=0
doSenderCheck=0 doRecipientCheck=0
mimedefang[2862]: Multiplexor alive - entering main loop
mimedefang[2862]: MIMEDefang-2.57: missing connection information

where does the error in the last line come from? i don't know how  to
get any further information about the problem, mimedefang just exits
with error code 255.
