feature? That might be it...

And after you're done searching for that silly setting which obviously
doesn't exist, you could try actually physically logging on to the
machine when it's offline, and find out what's going on. It is likely
faulty hardware, and it could be triggered by the extra memory used
by MD...

Mimedefang by default doesn't change anything to your machine's
connectivity, so it cannot possibly be involved in this (unless you
added calls to ipfw/iptables upon reception of certain emails, but in
that case you knew what you were up to...)
