Looking at the source, handleCommand is erroring out with an
EVENT_TCP_FLAG_TIMEOUT which can only be as small as 10 regardless
of settings. (I've still got a box running 2.39 that I still have the
source for... yes, it's marked for upgrade ;-).
I'll admit, things get hazy for me when I try to figure out the internal
c coding, but the same code is working elsewhere, so I doubt the mimedefang
code is wrong.

If the only thing you have changed is the admin address, how are
you starting mimedefang?

What happens when you run:
 mimedefang.pl -f /etc/mimedefang/mimedefang-filter -test
 mimedefang.pl -f /etc/mimedefang/mimedefang-filter -features
(in fact, post the features here)

What permissions are on /var/spool/M*:
 ls -ld /var/spool/M*
As root, whats in the MIMEDefang directories after starting MIMEDefang?

If you revert the filter back to the original (hear me out ;-) does the
filter work, or does the log file show the same errors (proves it's not
the changes you made causing the issues).

Does sendmail work without the milter code? (a stab in the dark...sorry)

I'm also hoping this is not a production server, but a test box somewhere?

Sorry this isn't an email saying where the problem is, but email filters
are complex systems (and the learning curve is steep). I've got systems
running on slackware 9.1 up to 10.2, but I add most of the perl modules
myself, and build sendmail from scratch.
