Thanks Tim, I appreciate the help. We had a power outage yesterday and when
the machine came back on the clamd.pid and sock files had to be manually
deleted to get it running again.... so yeah i guess the daemon still has
issues....
I tried adding the clamscan feature... but i think i added it in the wrong
place perhaps, or does it not matter where it goes?
Is there such a thing as "the best" filter to use? I know they are all
supposed to be tailer suited to each email server, but I'm having problems
finding the right balance... I'm currently using KAM's filter along with
sial.org's suggestions for SPF etc... (still working on those).
Well sorry to be so unorganized in my response, and I don;t expect a
response to such a bad massage :) but I do appreciate your help.

John,
Just define the locations in your filter. For example, I installed clam
after mimedefang, so it doesn't know about it by default, but I just put
in my /etc/mail/mimedefang-filter:
$Features{'Virus:CLAMAV'}="/usr/local/bin/clamscan";
I don't fully trust clamd yet, so I still am using only clamscan, but
you could enable it by defining:
$Features{'Virus::CLAMD'}="/path/to/clamd";
