Actually, we do owe the redmondian monkeys a "thank you."

At the bottome of the article linked above, they state:

        Another way to avoid the Trojan horse is to use non-Microsoft 
        browsers such as Mozilla and Opera. Security experts also said 
        that the infection does not affect Macintosh versions of Internet 
Explorer. 

The moral of the story is to use as much non-M$ software as possible, 
possibly breaking their stranglehold on the industry.
