Don't get me started. We're having our web site redesigned, and the
designers put in a riduculously strict test for a "valid" e-mail address
(as if such a test were even possible.)

Remember, the e-mail address:
"@&*#^&&@^#@&^#@!!"@roaringpenguin.com
is perfectly valid (and quite accurately reflects my sentiments upon
encountering such mis-designed Web forms...)
To get around stupid Web designers, you can probably modify the Sendmail
config file to use a different character (like underscore or period) instead
of a plus sign for the "plus hack". But that's a lot of work.
