I was rejecting emails with scores higher than a 5 (very restrictive) but
I noticed that once I started working as an instructor at a school and
requested homework sent via my mail server the combination just didn't
jive.

Spamtraps + ad hoc homework assignments = BAD!

Now, I merely pass on the score in a header that is easily filtered on via
clients and that works very well.

As for other methods of spam traps, I do collect statistics on IP's that
send to very very very old and long since dead email accounts and have
contemplated putting my own RBL together for the folks who sneak past the
other RBL's I use.

But that's a big risk with potential big overhead, and it's just easier to
pass a User Unknown error back to the offending server.
