[Mimedefang] Question about Virus Scanners

Honestly, I've been quite impressed by Clam Antivirus (free, open source
virus scanner that can be run in conjunction with sendmail/MIMEDefang on a
Linux server -- http://www.clamav.com). Note that we have a commercial
anti-virus product (McAfee) that runs on our primary CGPro mail server, and
ClamAV (on our gateway MIMEDefang/ClamAV) server has been MORE effective
than McAfee in stopping viruses.

I've been using ClamAV in conjunction with MIMEDefang for many months now
and have not really encountered any problems with viruses getting through
the gateway mail server. Since ClamAV regularly sees updates to its virus
database (sometimes several times per day), I created a cron.hourly script
that runs the "freshclam" script every hour in order to ensure current DAT
files.

Just my $0.02.
