Here's what I get with "clean"
     $ ./Build clean
     Configuration: pfx=, os=Linux, rel=2.4.7-10, rbase=2, rroot=2.4,
     arch=i686, sfx=, variant=optimized

     Making in
     /home/sparks/install/sendmail-8.12.10-save/obj.Linux.2.4.7-10.i686/sendmail

     rm -f main.o alias.o arpadate.o bf.o collect.o conf.o control.o
     convtime.o daemon.o deliver.o domain.o envelope.o err.o headers.o
     macro.o map.o mci.o milter.o mime.o parseaddr.o queue.o readcf.o
     recipient.o sasl.o savemail.o sfsasl.o shmticklib.o sm_resolve.o
     srvrsmtp.o stab.o stats.o sysexits.o timers.o tls.o trace.o udb.o
     usersmtp.o util.o version.o sendmail sendmail.0 aliases.0 mailq.0
     newaliases.0

"Gosh," I say, "it looks like it cleaned out the object files and
other stuff and I can now rebuild again from scratch. There's no
error."

Here's what I get with makeapizza:
     ./Build makeapizza
     Configuration: pfx=, os=Linux, rel=2.4.7-10, rbase=2, rroot=2.4,
     arch=i686, sfx=, variant=optimized
     Making in
     /home/sparks/install/sendmail-8.12.10-save/obj.Linux.2.4.7-10.i686/sendmail
     make: *** No rule to make target `makeapizza'. Stop.

"Gosh," I say, "it looks like I'm gonna have to order out for my
Pizza." With the instant feedback, I won't be waiting for the
Sendmail Consortium to make it for me.

Now I guess I should count my blessings. If this were the qmail
group, I'd be getting a lot more grief. On the other hand, the docs
are better for qmail; more organized, and maybe they'd have a better
case for giving me grief. I'm glad I learned something new about
    ./Build –c

I thank the group for the help.
