The philosophical issue here is: whose choice is it to discard? If
every user involved put exactly the same filter in procmail, there
would be no issue at all.  If we consider the MimeDefang operations
to be extensions of the user's choices or even choices mandated by
their organization then the MTA doesn't have to follow the rules
of a pure transport.  In fact, since nobody runs open relays on
purpose these days you could argue that there is no such thing
as a pure MTA anymore - they are all corrupted into being partly
MUA's for a certain set of users.
