i think that authenticated SMTP will eventually take care of this, but the
problem you will run into is getting everyone to convert. it's a PITA to
reconfigured thousands of users who don't know anything more than "I can't
send email" when something fails. or better yet, the ones who send an
email saying the can't send email.
