[Mimedefang] Automatic tempfail recovery

We have been experiencing random tempfails with MIMEDefang. We're
running MD v2.37 with SpamAssassin v2.55, Sendmail v8.12.9, and Perl
v5.8.0 on Linux. Here are the errors we get:

Sep 8 07:26:22 zeus sendmail[24777]: h88CQMUL024777: Milter
(mimedefang): local socket name
/usr/local/mail/MIMEDefang/spool/mimedefang.sock unsafe
Sep 8 07:26:22 zeus sendmail[24777]: h88CQMUL024777: Milter
(mimedefang): to error state
Sep 8 07:26:22 zeus sendmail[24777]: h88CQMUL024777: Milter:
initialization failed, temp failing commands

...Whenever these tempfails happens, which is not too often but it does
happen, a simple restart of MIMEDefang fixes it. I'd really like to
figure out why they're happening and make them stop, but thats not the
point of this email.

Would it be possible to have MIMEDefang check for a tempfail state and
attempt to restart itself every configurable period of time? I would
have it default to checking once every 3 minutes or so. Opinions?
