You forgot to mention that '%', '!', and '@' are routing directives in
sendmail. So I'm uncertain why you would think sendmail would choke.
E.g. gerry%pathtech.org at roaringpenguin.com is a valid address but
whether or not roaringpenguin relays it is another question. Is this why
you say choke?
