That is my understanding.  Some MUAs will will systematically produce mail
as

  Content-type:  multipart/alternative

with the priority part being text/html.  Unless you like analyzing your
spam, there is no good reason to keep the text/html alternative.

Keep in mind that some spamware has taken to sending things with
multipart/alternative where the text/plain alternative is empty and the
text/html part has the spam content.  So if you revove the text/html
alternative you will miss out on some spam content.  This, of course, is
only a problem if you like analyzing your spam.
