[Mimedefang] question about bounce

Hmmm...

Still a little confused. I was able to do a test today. I have two mail
servers, lets call one A, and the other B.

B is running MIMEDefang, and I have set it such that it will
action_bounce("User Unknown") my incoming email.

I send the email from mail server A. So, picture server A as the
"spammer". On server A I send the email, and in server A's mail logs
(sendmail) I see the following:

Jun  5 12:31:09 <mail.info> A sm-mta[58010]: h55JV8vE058008:
to=<john at B>, ctladdr=<john at A> (1000/1000), delay=00:00:01,
xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=30608, relay=B. [216.74.79.181],
dsn=5.0.0, stat=Service unavailable

So will action_bounce() always return dsn=5.0.0 and "Service
unavailable" to the sender host?

Now if I look at the mail logs on server B (the recipient server) I see:

Jun  5 15:31:11 <mail.info> B sm-mta[8068]: h55JVBWu008068: to=<john at B>,
delay=00:00:00, pri=30843, stat=User Unknown

It seems that $reply (from action_bounce($reply)) only appears in the
logs of the recipient server. The sender only sees 5.0.0 Service
unavailable. Does this sound correct?

John

Not in version 2.33, but the latest beta lets you do that. You can
specify
both the SMTP reply code (5xx) and the DSN notification code
(the 5.7.1.)
