[Mimedefang] MIMEDefang timeouts (again) (fwd)

Thanks to Davids help on how to manually run MD on a rogue email,
i've trapped this bug !
After a lot of printf()'s in mimedefang.pl, it appeared that Unix::Syslog
was hanging the process.
I retrieved the latest from
http://www.cpan.org/modules/by-module/Unix
and everything is now fine !!!
Anyone seeing wierd timeouts (after disabling razor, rbl and co) should
try upgrading syslog perl module first - it definetly worked for me.
Cheers
M

Add the "-k" flag to mimedefang so it keeps the failed directory
around. Then run the perl filter "by hand" like this:
cd /var/spool/MIMEDefang/mdefang-whatever
rm -rf Work
mimedefang.pl .
and see if you can figure out why it's choking.

David.

Hi,
Unfortunately it doesn't fix the problem. I added the following
to /etc/mail/spamassassin/sa-mimedefang.cf
use_pyzor 0
use_razor1 0
use_razor2 0
use_dcc 0
(skip_rbl_checks is already defined as 1), and restarted MD and
sendmail and just a couple of minutes ago:
Jul 9 17:16:56 core sm-mta[27245]: h69GGsoJ027245: from=<linux-usb-devel-admin at lists.sourceforge.net>, size=2913, class=-60, nrcpts=1, msgid=<E19a912-0001Oa-2n at externalmx.vasoftware.com>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=lists.sourceforge.net [66.35.250.206]

Any other suggestions or how i can debug this further much appreciated.

Hi,
I assume you mean SA's Razor (i don't believe MD supports
it internally). Well unless it's the default for SA, i've
not explicitly enabled it in /etc/mail/sa-mimedefang.cf no.
However looking at
man Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf
looks like use_razor[12] is on by default.
I'll switch it off and post if it fixes the problem.
Thanks for the quick reply. Maybe a good candidate for
the FAQ if it fixes the problem ?
Cheers

Are you doing any network-related tests at all? RBL lookups, Razor,
DCC, etc? On lightly-loaded machines that experience timeouts, network
tests are usually the culprit.

David.
