This is done by Anomy Sanitizer.  To get it to stop doing this, comment out 
the references to Anomy in your MIMEDefang filter.

Incidentally, I wasn't able to read your original messages because they 
were base64 encoded.  It would probably be okay if I got mail sent directly 
to me, but I'm subscribed to the digest, and it just shows up as raw base64 
code.  If I'm not mistaken, it shows up in the web archives this way too.
