Does the McAfee virus scanner detect the eicar test virus besides mimedefang
(uvscan -version works)?
Does "mimedefang.pl -features" list the McAfee scanner?
If you did not change the mimedefang-filter example code for initializing
the virus detection and  you can answer both questions with yes all should
be running well.

A side note: you are running Redhat 9. Hopefully you have disabled UTF-8
locale, otherwise many perl scenarios will fail, as mimedefang.
