Probably worth putting that in to the FAQ.  Similarly, you want your 
sendmail queue directories to be on multiple disks -- either using 
Sendmail's support for multiple queue directories, or, better, using 
RAID (1+0 works nicely).

Here's some unscientific numbers.  A dual CPU Sun V880 (750MHz CPUs) with
Sendmail + MIMEDefang + SpamAssassin can process about 10,000 messages
an hour.  A quad CPU V800 (again, 750MHz CPUs) pushes that to about 23,000
messages per hour.

Of that, almost the entire overhead is SpamAssassin, typically taking 
between 1 and 3 seconds to process a message.
