That is really, really strange.  Your machine is slow, but it certainly has
enough memory to run more than 3 Perl processes.

The "busy timeout" corresponds (roughly) to the "DATA Termination"
timeout in Section 4.5.3 of RFC 2821.  The recommended value in
the RFC is 10 minutes.  Give yourself a safety factor of two, and
keep busy-timeout to 5 minutes (300 seconds) or less.

MIMEDefang introduces a delay between the final "." of DATA processing
and the reply code.  It violates the spirit of RFC 1047
(http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1047.txt) but (obviously) I think it's
worth it.
