That is true, and also Eric Allman and the other sendmail folks recommend 
using almost anything other than ext2/ext3 for your mail queue directory.  
They said that the best filesystem to use is SGI's XFS (which does run on 
linux, although on redhat you have to get the extra tools to use it).
