[Mimedefang] MIMEDefang calling Spam Assassin, not using user _prefs?

I just installed the MIMEDefang Milter onto my RedHat 8.0 box to give 
me some flexibility with mail. I had been using Spam Assassin prior 
with individual user_pref files in their home directories. For some 
reason now those are not getting read. only the 
/etc/mail/spamassassin/sa_mimedefang.cf file gets read.

Is anyone using MIMEDefang with SA that has user_prefs working to 
tweak the rules for each user?
