uvscan will be the bottleneck, because it's a fork/exec.

Be careful -- I've heard reports of problems with BSDi's pthreads
implementation.  I'm not sure which versions were affected, but you
want to test it carefully.

That's < 1 per second per machine?  Shouldn't be a problem.
