[Mimedefang] Rebuilding e-mail from MIMEDefang quarantine directory

Hi there.
I've run into a problem with a client who experienced some weird
filesystem corruption on their mail server. Unfortunately, one of
the things damaged (and not noticed immediately) was the antivirus
program definition files.
As a result, since MIMEDefang received a non-zero return from the A/V
program, it quarantined all mail passing through the server for about
twelve hours until the problem was rectified. Due to certain silly
MUAs which turn nearly everything--even the text body--into a MIME
attachment, the majority of the mail traffic was quarantined.
Just wondering if anyone's got a script that can parse a MIMEDefang
quarantine directory and build an e-mail message to be forwarded, or
any sense of how long it would take a relative perl neophyte to write
one.
I suppose this also leads to the suggestion that the antivirus
integration in MIMEDefang might be altered such that it
differentiates between return codes indicating virus found versus
program failures, and could choose different disposal actions
depending. (eg, a tempfail instead of quarantine.)
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
