As you discovered, the problem lay with Razor.  In general, a timeout error
means MIMEDefang is taking too long to do something.  (Surprise! :-))

Once you've eliminated everything you control (sufficient CPU power,
sufficient RAM, fast enough disk, valid filter rules), the usual culprit
is something you don't control, like poor network performance or another
server that's down.  That's probably what happened with Razor.

You can change the timeouts; see the mimedefang-multiplexor(8) man
