[Mimedefang] Timeout before data read problems

Upgraded yesterday, both Sendmail (v8.12.2 to v8.12.6) and MIMEDefang
(v2.6 to v2.26) on a Solaris 2.6 (sparc) system. No problems apparent
until a short time ago when we started getting the following repeatedly
in the logs.

---snip---
Dec 3 10:25:05 xxxxxx.aims.gov.au sm-mta[18221]: gB30Nx4H018221: Milter
(mimedefang): timeout before data read
Dec 3 10:25:05 xxxxxx.aims.gov.au sm-mta[18221]: gB30Nx4H018221: Milter
(mimedefang): to error state
Dec 3 10:25:05 xxxxxx.aims.gov.au sm-mta[18221]: gB30Nx4H018221: Milter
(mimedefang): init failed to open
Dec 3 10:25:05 xxxxxx.aims.gov.au sm-mta[18221]: gB30Nx4H018221:
Milter: initialization failed, temp failing commands
---snip---

I've been trying to ascertain what may have kicked this off, so far
without any luck, the only thing I have found is that shortly after it
started the following was logged also repeatedly, but may not be
related:

---snip---
Dec 3 10:26:38 xxxxxx.aims.gov.au sm-mta[17167]: gB2NQW4H017167:
timeout waiting for input from [203.48.130.178] during message collect
---snip---

After about 14 minutes I also started to get the following repeatedly:

---snip---
Dec 3 10:39:32 xxxxxx.aims.gov.au sm-mta[18379]: gB30dW4H018379: Milter
(mimedefang): error connecting to filter: Connection refused by
/var/spool/MIMEDefang/mimedefang.sock
---snip--

I have restarted Sendmail/Mimedefang and the problem seems to have gone
away for the time being. I'm wondering if this may reflect a resource
problem or maybe something else? MimeDefang is configured only to do
attachment quarantining on this machine, but the machine does run some
other processes which may load it at times. Any assistance in ironing
this one out would be much appreciated.

Regards
Nick
